A day of positive thought in the midst of negative floods...

As both the local and national news flooded my ears and eyes with negative news I found my self seeking out positive aspects. There is so much positive out there.  WE just need to turn up the volume.  Things that weren't covered in today's news...
  • Local families receive meal assistance at several local charities, including Berks County's Opportunity house, Greater Reading Food Bank and the Kennedy house.
  • Reading/Berks Habitat For Humanity has helped over 50 families build their own home.  The families work hard for this privilege putting in 100's of hours of sweat equity even before they know if the home will be theirs.
  • Local farmers, bakers, and butchers participate in several local markets, reducing resource consumption while providing you with fresh, nutritious food!
  • A little boy was made happy when a stranger stopped to speak to him, ask him his name and how he was doing. She spoke to him in a manner that was blind to the fact that he was in a wheelchair and had physical impairments.  The little boy made a new friend.  Every time they passed in the store they stopped to speak and she greeted him by name...
  • Someone smiled at some one having a bad day and changed the course of their entire day.
WE can all take action and do good random things everyday... without seeking recognition or reward... this is what makes it Newsworthy!

Warby Parker caught an the act of kindness

Thanks to a good friend I just found out about a huge act of kindness committed by a "corporation"... The Warby Parker company had found a way to not only manufacture fashionable glasses with good lenses (including anti-reflective coating) for under $100; but for every pair purchased they donate a complete pair to someone in need. Their distribution range is world wide... Individuals from Nairobi to the USA may become beneficiaries of this kindness.

The Girls with Glasses Show: Win A Pair of Glasses!: "Whether you need glasses or not (we know some of you are fakers), you can win a divine pair of Warby Parker specs, complete with your presc..."

Kindness without cost

...haven't blogged for some time.  Actually, I haven't blogged since it was a required part of a graduate level course.  Most days it seems to me hat I do enough writing, working on papers, proposals, and curriculum components. I do, however, miss writing, without a paper in mind, just to empty my mind or to share little things.  Writing for fun is just as important (if not more) as reading for fun...  We all need to communicate and share our passions and thought.  This blog is intended to share good news, random observations,  encourage critical thinking and thought, and perhaps enlighten.  It will not be used to spread negatives.  If there is a debate, will do my best to present all sides and explain my take with an even keel...I know I may not understand all the perspectives so take care if I misstep and educate me by kindly explaining your viewpoint.
